I saw the movie Premonition last night. In the movie the main character predicts and lives through the week of her husband's death. At one point, after finding out that he was going to cheat on her, she was conflicted with the question, "If I let him die, will it be the same as killing him?" So guys what do you think? Would it be the same?

Maybe not the same as actually killing him but she would be condoning him to death. Another question is should she save him and alter history or let the natural courses of events take place? Which choice would be right or just?

That's definitely difficult to say at best. Perhaps it is. I like some of Jon's take. Maybe by knowing he's going to die or by the wife knowing of future events, probability would alter ever so slightly and the thought cheating would disappear. I say this because the husband hasn't cheated yet, right? In that case, I certainly don't think it's "right" or "Just" to condemn someone to a crime they have not committed yet! Especially if your changing the course of the future by acting on knowledge you should not have.

IMO the ethical thing is to try and save his life - rather it works or not. I predicating this on the idea that nothing is truely random anyway. So - the bahavior of the girl will not affect the man's ultimate fate. However, it will affect her own spiritual evolution. Thus - the life affirming choice is always the right one.

so you believe we are all fated to do things rather than having a chance at free will? I agree that the girl should try since she has been given a second chance but I cant believe it would happen anyway if she tried. I also realize the movie ended with the guy still dying but i am not using the ending to justify any argument. Though she was stupid in her attempt to save his life.

It doesn't have to be either /or. Both are true IMO. There are probabilities in our lives AND we have free choice. But as to ULTIMATE FATE - well, that is a matter of sheer opinion. How can you know whether the death would or would not have occured anyway? That is why you cannot make ethical decisions based upon what MIGHT happen - 'cause....you don't know. Maybe s/he is better off dead? Is it bad to die? It depend upon what you think death is. Maybe death is good.,,
